VIVIAN MAIER
Attiva soprattutto tra gli anni ’50 e ’70, Vivian Maier ha documentato la vita urbana americana con uno sguardo silenzioso, attento e profondamente umano. Le sue immagini catturano scene di strada, volti anonimi, bambini, lavoratori, autoritratti riflessi e ombre, restituendo un ritratto autentico e complesso della società del suo tempo.
Nulla appare costruito: ogni scatto è il risultato di un’osservazione paziente, di una presenza discreta capace di cogliere l’attimo con naturalezza e sensibilità.
Il lavoro di Maier è rimasto sconosciuto per decenni ed è stato scoperto solo dopo la sua morte, quando il collezionista John Maloof comprò quasi per caso alcune scatole di suoi negativi in asta, rivelando un archivio impressionante composto da migliaia di negativi, rullini non sviluppati e filmati. Questa scoperta tardiva ha contribuito ad alimentare il fascino della sua figura, oggi riconosciuta a livello internazionale come una delle più importanti street photographer del XX secolo.
