Sandy Skoglund WINTER
Curated by Germano Celant
2019
This monograph presents the first systematic and complete examination of the career of the American artist Sandy Skoglund, from her debut in the early 1970s until the present day. A leading member of the generation that developed the language of staged photography, Skoglund’s exploration is characterized by a dialectic between installation and photography. Her settings, with their unreal, disconcerting tints and their enigmatic density, stem from her observation and study of familiar places and contexts, often pertaining to the American middle class.
This publication, edited by Germano Celant, reconstructs the entire span of Skoglund’s personal and creative life through an interweaving of her biography and her research accompanied by a lavish selection of works and writings, thereby making a completely new contribution to the literature on the artist.
