MICHAL MACKU
Since the end of 1989, the Czech artist Michal Macku has been creating his works using a technique of his own invention, called Gellage and officially described in the volume published by Taschen “20th Century Photography“.
This unique procedure consists in tearing off the gelatin emulsion from the photographic film during printing. Starting in 2007, after more than ten years of constant experimentation, Michal Macku reaches the three-dimensionality in analogic photography, taking advantage of the transparency of the glass and creating the “Glass-Gellage”.
The artist works with a special block of tempered glass produced in Germany, subdivided into multiple glass sheets, on each of which he imprints two photographic techniques in the darkroom: the gellage and the carbon print.
Recently, the artist began experimenting with colors and large dimensions, creating for the first time color glass gellages, both in standard and monumental sizes.
