VIVIAN MAIER
Active mainly between the 1950s and 1970s, Vivian Maier documented American urban life with a quiet, attentive, and deeply human gaze. Her images capture street scenes, anonymous faces, children, workers, reflected self-portraits, and shadows, providing an authentic and complex portrait of the society of her time.
Nothing appears staged: each shot is the result of patient observation, of a discreet presence capable of capturing the moment with naturalness and sensitivity.
Maier’s work remained unknown for decades and was only discovered after her death, when collector John Maloof bought a few boxes of her negatives at auction almost by chance, revealing an impressive archive of thousands of negatives, undeveloped rolls of film, and footage. This belated discovery has contributed to the fascination surrounding her figure, now internationally recognized as one of the most important street photographers of the 20th century.
