curated by Sandra Benvenuti

Via Pola 6, Milano

 30.03.2017 - 27.04.2017

On the occasion of the FESTIVAL EUROPEAN PHOTO promoted dall'A.F.I, the cultural association BARICENTRO presents an exhibition curated by Sandra Benvenuti entitled "RALPH GIBSON - CLOSE-UP". Thanks to the cooperation with Paci contemporary gallery, the exhibition will show vintage photographs taken from the series "Somnambulist" and "Deja-Vu" of the '60s and '70s, female nudes, erotic and suggestive images, between reality and imagination.

Mystery, beauty and sensuality are the elements that could be regularly found in the series of works signed by the famous American photographer. Ralph Gibson's images, suspended in an enigmatic and crystallized time, reveal a constant attention to the composition, capturing reality in its material evidence, becoming disturbing objects, capable to suggest sensual energies and emotions.

In all of Gibson's photographs there is always a detail that betrays, that breaks down, that disturbs and confuses the viewer. It is a detail that is not expected but, if you look carefully, it was supposed to be there. It's specifically that particular that give completeness and perfection to the image. It's the close-up that you do not expect.
