An instant photography applied to places and landscapes and raised as work of art, a poetry of Polaroid made of “blood and matter” that mirrors a journey both physical and mental, and a constant recall to the lessons of the historical avant-gardes from Bragaglia’s photodynamism, to the Futurism, to Duchamp’s ready-made and even the Dadaist revolution. Precisely those elements are the main features of the visual mosaics made by MAURIZIO GALIMBERTI, one of the most celebrated Italian contemporary photographer, “Instant Polaroid artist” according to his own definition and internationally well-known for his works based on Polaroid.

From April 2nd to September 30th Paci contemporary is pleased to host, for the first time in its completeness, the unpublished exhibition projectMexico. By Maurizio Galimberti”, based on a trip made in Mexico between 2002 and 2009 together with Giuliana Scimé, one of the most influential and well-known photography historian and critic. The works produced, visual mosaics and single Polaroid, find their own origin expressly in this research with the aim of reviving the most vivid and revolutionary ferments of the Mexican culture of the 1900s to describe a country in the golden age of its intellectual vivacity and to revive an historical legacy of personalities connected to art and culture who left their permanent influence in the social background. The show recalls, through Galimberti’s unique images, the traces of those streets and places that hosted artists and intellectuals like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Mariana Yampolsky and Leon Trotsky.
According to his personal contemporary point of view, Maurizio Galimberti creates evocative and intimate photography that reinterpret reality in multiple perspectives, on which he often acts through analogue manipulation of the image to find the rhythm of the entire composition. Even the visual mosaics show themselves as dynamic images, experiments on modularity and repetition, inspired by an obsessive attention to the compositional balance.
