Paci contemporary è lieta di presentare “AMERICA ’70 – La fotografia fra sogno e realtà”, Group show che riunisce alcuni dei più importanti artisti americani che, negli anni ’70, hanno rivoluzionato la Fotografia, influenzando in maniera determinante il panorama artistico successivo. Jerry Uelsmann, Arthur Tress, Leslie Krims, Duane Michals, Ralph Gibson, Judy Dater, Larry Clark, William Egglestone, Sandy Skoglund, William Klein, Joel Meyerowitz, Bill Burke, Dave Heath, Aaron Siskind, Nicholas Nixon, Bruce Davidson, Mark Cohen, Olivia Parker, Lee Friedlander, Harry Callahan, e molti altri.., sono artisti riconosciuti a livello internazionale, che vantano esposizioni nei più prestigiosi musei di tutto il mondo.

Partendo dalla lista stilata nel 1978 da John Szarkowski, direttore del dipartimento di fotografia del MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) di New York, la mostra offrirà un viaggio alla scoperta dei grandi Maestri che hanno interpretato la fotografia come mezzo artistico in bilico fra sogno e realtà: un percorso nell’America degli anni ’70 e non solo…

Tra i molti artisti che saranno presentati, basti citare Jerry Uelsmann, capace di creare immagini che, attraverso la sovrapposizione di diversi negativi, creano un universo  magico e misterioso, al contempo reale e immaginario; Arthur Tress, le cui fotografie raccontano il percorso di un uomo alla costante ricerca di un’identità, che ha saputo scrutare nel profondo della sua interiorità; Leslie Krims, che si concentra sulla dissacrazione degli stereotipi della società americana, attraverso una satira feroce e ironica; Duane Michals, che utilizza il mezzo fotografico per raccontare, attraverso una sequenza di fotogrammi, delle vere e proprie storie; Ralph Gibson, un visionario affascinato dalle astrazioni dell’architettura quanto da quelle sinuose e sensuali della forma femminile, che sperimenta con la forma del corpo e dello spazio le distanze tra la realtà e l’astrazione, il contrasto tra il bianco e nero; Judy Dater, i cui primi lavori sono incentrati sulla liberazione e la percezione delle forme femminili; fino ad arrivare a Sandy Skoglund, con i suoi primi esperimenti fotografici degli anni ’74-’79, che rappresentano il punto di partenza da cui poi si svilupperà la ‘Staged Photography’: opere al confine tra fotografia e installazione, che richiedono anni di progettazione e creazione prima che possa essere scattata la fotografia vera e propria: niente viene infatti manipolato con il Photoshop ma è l’artista in persona a creare, dettaglio dopo dettaglio, le sue scenografie. Una curatissima raccolta di immagini attentamente selezionate che, dagli anni ’70 fino ad oggi, svelano un nuovo, rivoluzionario modo di pensare la fotografia.

In occasione della mostra, sarà presentato anche il nuovo volume edito da Paci contemporary, con testo critico a cura di Gigliola Foschi.
